Brewing news USA: Bud Light shares a good laugh with Jibjab Jokebox

The leading American brewer, Anheuser‑Busch, announced on April 18 that Bud Light, long known for its entertaining, humorous advertising on TV and radio, will take a leading role in viral humor as the launch sponsor of JibJab Media’s Jokebox -- a Web-based portal for users to store and share funny e-mails and jokes with a worldwide audience.

Bud Light will feature the site’s top 10 member-rated jokes of the week on BudLight.com and will have a significant advertising presence on the site. Jokebox also will make available several of Bud Light’s more popular humorous ads, including “Real Men of Genius” and “Ted Ferguson: Bud Light Daredevil,” for one-touch download to personal computers or portable media devices. Jokebox is the brainchild of JibJab Media creators Gregg and Evan Spiridellis.

“Bud Light advertising is synonymous with humor. When we began talking to Gregg and Evan about Jokebox, we knew from the start this would be a perfect match for shared content with BudLight.com,” said Rick Leininger, director, Bud Light Marketing, Anheuser-Busch. “JibJab continues to be a leader in the realm of viral humor, and Jokebox is another perfect way to engage adult beer drinkers with social humor and viral content to be shared among friends.”

Anheuser-Busch’s partnership with JibJab Jokebox is an extension of the two companies’ year-long relationship that began in May 2005 with a series of animated online videos developed for Budweiser and hosted on JibJab.com. Registration for Jokebox is free.

“Anheuser-Busch has a long history of trailblazing when it comes to marketing in new mediums,” said JibJab co-founder Gregg Spiridellis. “They were among the first to venture into radio and television, and we’re thrilled they’ve chosen to work with JibJab to help define the future of online entertainment and advertising.”

Internet surfers everywhere can view Bud Light’s funniest commercials and have been able to share the laughs with friends since the launch of JokeBox on Tax Day, Monday, April 17 at www.JibJab.com.

Since founding JibJab in 1999, the Spiridellis brothers have worked with several major marketers including Sony, Kraft, USA Networks and the History Channel, and have been accepted into film festivals around the world, including Sundance 2004. In 2004, Gregg’s lyrics and Evan’s artwork and animation helped spark an international sensation with the release of JibJab’s election parody, “This Land.” The two-minute short and its follow up, “Good to be in DC!” were seen more than 80 million times online and on every continent, including Antarctica. NASA even contacted the brothers for permission to send a copy of the animation to the International Space Station. JibJab is based in Santa Monica, Calif.
